NEHA News Release

Registered Environmental Health Specialist / Registered Sanitarian (REHS / RS)
Release Date:
April 1, 2014

DENVER--- The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) announces it will offer a newly updated version of the Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS) exam beginning July 13, 2014.

Candidates who are planning to take the exam on or after July 13 should refer to the revised Candidate Information Brochure to review the current course outline in preparation for the new exam.
The REHS/RS is the premiere NEHA credential, available to a wide range of environmental health professionals. Individuals holding the REHS/RS credential show competency in environmental health issues, direct and train personnel to respond to routine or emergency environmental situations, and frequently provide education to their communities on environmental health concerns.

“With a credential as important as the REHS/RS, it is essential for NEHA to ensure that the credential exam tests on the most up-to-date, relevant information at hand,” said NEHA Credentialing Coordinator Patricia Churpakovich. Churpakovich also said that, to that end, NEHA has contracted with Professional Testing Inc. (PTI) to perform a job task analysis (JTA) study of the REHS/RS field. Currently, NEHA and PTI are finalizing the exam upgrade process and will be ready to release the new exam in the summer. The content outline for the exam has been changed to reflect the current practice of a REHS/RS, according to the results of the survey.
New study materials, including a new study guide, are anticipated to be available in the late spring of 2014.The first offering of this exam will be at the NEHA 2014 Annual Educational Conference (AEC) & Exhibition on July 13, 2014, in Las Vegas.
